This past Sunday’s Gospel there was to much to meditate on. We can say that Jesus said three stories in this past Sunday’s Gospel. One was the lost sheep, the other was the lost coin, and the third one was the Prodigal Son. What do they all have in common you may ask? Well I’ll tell you. This weekend God was showing his love to each and every one of us in mass.
We all know that we are sinners and sometimes we let our sin remind us that we are worth nothing. Heck even Jesus knows we are sinners, but he doesn’t care. Jesus mission in this world was to take us back home. He came down to earth to find that one missing sheep that went wondering off. He went crazy for each and every one of us looking for us like that woman was looking for that missing gold coin. We sometimes forget that God didn’t choose us because of who we are or because we need to fit into a perfect standard in order to impress God. No... God wants us because He loves us. He is like that loving father that even though his son went to spend that money, probably in women, gambling, drugs, alcohol, sex, you name it, he ran to him to meet up to his son and say Welcome home my son.
It is really hard to see a father say that to his child. Lets be honest, if my mom caught me leaving my house at night to go to a dance, or party with my friends and she was waiting up all night I can assure you that she would not be at the door with open arms to hug me and to say welcome home. If your mom is anything like my mom she would probably send out the flying chancla. It’s amazing how Jesus describes this father not with a chancla but with open arms and even throws a party for his son. This is how Jesus sees us. The day we truly repent from our sins will be the day that there will be a huge feast in heaven because of that sinner that has seen mercy and salvation in Jesus. So if there is something bothering you or feel like your scared to repent because God is going to judge you, don’t worry about it. God will rejoice and hug you with the biggest hug that you could ever receive and you will hear him whisper Welcome Home My Son.
